The Danzante Home, a modern sleek cottage

Black onyx against white oak. Backlit Patagonia quartzite instead of the expected Cristallo. Alabaster pendants falling through a two-story great room. This is cottage architecture with every soft edge kept — and every material decision sharpened.

What makes a cottage sleek

Modern sleek cottage design keeps the architecture that makes a cottage feel like home — arched entries, hand-troweled plaster, exposed box beams, reclaimed wood — and edits everything layered onto it. The Danzante Home runs a tight, repeating palette through every room: black onyx cabinetry warmed by white oak, honed natural stone, and sculptural lighting in alabaster and glass.

The result reads calm rather than rustic. Materials repeat from the exterior to the basement bar, so a walk through the house feels like one continuous idea instead of fifteen separate mood boards.

Great room

The great room's window wall gets a cascade of Mesa pendant chandeliers from Hammerton Studio, echoed by Mesa Mandrel double sconces flanking the full-height limestone fireplace. Black steel beams frame the volume overhead, and light wood floors in Stonewood's Developer Sausalito keep it bright. From the sofa, the room opens straight through to the kitchen — one continuous space under the upper gallery.

Kitchen

The kitchen anchors on an Elite non-directional antique brass range hood, flanked by Kai 2 wire-cage pendants from Visual Comfort over the island. Rift white oak cabinetry with honey bronze hardware wraps the perimeter; the black onyx island grounds it. Counters are 3cm Tahiti stone with a mitered 4-inch edge — a chunky, sleek profile that repeats in the primary suite.

Primary suite: backlit Patagonia quartzite

Everyone backlights Cristallo. The Danzante primary bath backlights Patagonia quartzite instead — a rarer stone whose crystalline pockets and mineral veining throw far more interesting light. A full backlit slab rises behind the freestanding tub beneath the Collier Alabaster 84 chandelier, and the same glow returns in the shower, where lit niches float marble shelves against warm stone. Vanities are black onyx under quartzite counters mitered to 4 inches; bedroom lighting is Visual Comfort's Arena 53″ wood ring-and-globe chandelier over a fluted white oak feature wall.

Powder room

The powder room turns moodier: a chunky patina-metal floating vanity carries a fluted stone vessel sink beneath an organic-edge mirror, against a wall of dimensional croc-textured tile. Venetian plaster in deep gray wraps the remaining walls, catching ripples of light from amber glass pendants, with a wall-mounted brass faucet finishing the mix.

Basement bar & entertainment area

The basement bar doubles down on the house's two-tone language: black onyx and white oak cabinetry under a Black Panther countertop and backsplash, puck lighting below the uppers, and white oak box beams overhead — all beside a floating white oak and steel staircase. In the entertainment area, an inset oval ceiling in polished black echoes the home's archways, holding a run of woven chandeliers over walnut slat paneling that hides the door to storage.

Every other room, same discipline

The palette holds everywhere the camera hasn't been yet. The mudroom sets black onyx lockers over an Amani Gray and Calacatta checkerboard. The dining room drapes the Shalom leather chandelier over two-tone onyx and Shinnoke ivory oak cabinets. The office panels its upper walls in Montana Ghostwood to match the exterior. Guest baths run from brass-inlay black porcelain to earthy fluted tile, all on Nimbus White honed counters — and the gym finishes under a Venetian-polished ceiling in Tricorn Black.
