Scandinavian Modern Remodel.
Scandinavian interior design is a minimalist style that mixes textures and soft color palettes to make elegant, modern décor feel warm and inviting—clean lines, utility, and no-frills furnishings that are practical, attractive, and comfortable. This remodel carried that idea through every room of the house, and the Tricorn Black exterior, in five and a half months.
Warm minimalism, room by room
Most remodels change finishes. This one changed the logic of the house. A single Scandinavian vocabulary — frosted white oak against matte black, wood slats overhead, concrete gray for weight, hickory underfoot — repeats from the great room to the coffee bar to the boys' bathrooms, so every before-and-after reads as the same calm idea arriving in a new room. The whole transformation, inside and out, took five and a half months.
See it move: the full video tour below, and the project as featured in NOCO Style Magazine.
Great room
The empty two-story volume became the house's anchor: a floor-to-ceiling wood slat fireplace wall with floating shelves and a mounted TV, concrete dome pendants overhead, and hickory floors warming the whole span. The furniture keeps the Scandinavian brief — leather barrel chairs in wood frames, a faceted concrete coffee table, a sculptural root-wood console, and a forged-steel floor lamp.

Dining room
The builder-beige tray-ceiling room became a slatted-wood dining space centered on a live-edge table with a sculptural base. A wood artichoke pendant hangs above; seating mixes tall black cotton wingbacks and metal leather wingbacks at the heads with pewter-textured Barbana chairs and Tig metal barrel chairs along the sides.

Kitchen & fireplace table
Frosted white oak uppers float over matte black lowers beneath a concrete range hood, with wood slats running the ceiling and woven basket pendants over the island — now extended with a butcher-block table edge and upholstered stools. Beside it, the stacked-stone fireplace gained a black slat surround and a live-edge counter-height table, turning the hearth into a place to eat.

Coffee bar & wine wall
A pass-through of plain white cabinets became the most-used corner of the house: black lower cabinets under quartzite, a black croc-textured hexagon backsplash, and frosted white oak open shelves that wrap the corner under lighting. A beverage fridge tucks below; nearby, a glass wine wall between columns puts the collection on display.

Entry & mudroom
The entry gets a custom statement: a metal pivot front door in wide corrugated panels, powder-coated black with chunky metal hardware, under a glass-shaded sputnik chandelier, with a glass railing keeping the stair light. The mudroom pairs black locker cabinets with a wood-plank hexagon porcelain mosaic against concrete gray ceramic tile.

Master bath & powder
The master bath trades twin white vanities for black cabinetry, a freestanding tub against a wood slat accent wall, and Sedona 3D hexagon porcelain tile — all finished in champagne bronze, from the floor-mount tub filler to the shower set. The powder room grounds a vessel sink and brass faucet on Costa Bella Nero porcelain floors.

Kids' spaces & remaining baths
The playfulness stays on-palette. The play room mixes a wood geometric chandelier, a hanging rattan chair, and a solid wood play table with crate storage. The boys' rooms build around cabin and tent beds with navy striped bedding, each with its own bath tile — geometric Canberra Decor II for one, steel-blue Angela Harris Inspira Oxide for the other — while the downstairs bath goes graphic with Kenridge Ribbon Black 24×48 tile.

Mountain modern exterior
The transformation runs all the way to the curb. The green-and-gray traditional facade went Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black with cedar trim and railing accents against the original stone, finished with modern black exterior lights — a mountain modern exterior that makes the before photo look like a different house entirely.

A minimalistic style that mixes textures and soft colorings to make elegant, modern décor feel warm and inviting. It accentuates clean lines, utility, and no-frills furnishings that are practical, attractive, and comfortable — warmth through material, not clutter.

Five and a half months, covering the great room, dining, kitchen, coffee bar, entry, mudroom, master bath, powder, kids' rooms and baths, and the full exterior.
-
Slats add warmth, rhythm, and acoustic softness without ornament — the Scandinavian move in one material. Here they run across the kitchen and dining ceilings, wrap the great room fireplace, and rise behind the master tub, tying the whole house together.

This one did. The befores in every photo are standard builder finishes; the afters come from a repeated palette — white oak, matte black, wood slats, concrete gray — applied with discipline rather than a bigger footprint.
